A rare balk called on a catcher sparked Fargo Post 2’s American Legion baseball team to a dramatic come-from-behind 3-2 win over Hibbing Saturday at the Water Carnival Tournament.
Post 2 scored all three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to post a 3-0 tournament record and improve to 21-14 overall.
During the winning rally, umpires called a balk on the Hibbing catcher when he stepped out of the batter’s box area during an intentional walk. The balk allowed Carter Thompson to score from third.
Andrew Penney then singled in Jake Salentine to tie the game 2-2. After Penney stole second base, Gunnar Linstaedt singled him home to end the game 3-2.
