Fargo Post 2 catcher Andrew Penney launched a three-run home run in the first inning for plenty of offense to back up starting pitcher Gunnar Linstaedt’s commanding performance in a 6-0 shutout victory over the Perham Buzz in the opening game for both teams at the Detroit Lakes Water Carnival Wooden Bat tournament.

Linstaedt pitched six innings allowing only two hits and retired the Buzz in order in four of his six innings on the mound. Five Perham runners reached base with none reaching third base safely.

Perham’s Josh Still led off the game with smash down the right field line but was gunned down at third base.

In the bottom half of the first, Jake Salentine and Lincoln Voss reached on a single and an error at second base to set the plate for Penney who hit a line drive into a 22 mph wind blowing in from right field that landed just over the fence for the 3-0 early lead.

Salentine walked and scored on a Penney hit that got by Perham first baseman Hayden Studevant that was ruled an error for a 4-0 lead.

Post 2 pushed two more insurance runs across in the fourth for the final Fargo runs.

Linstaedt fanned six, walked two, hit one batter allowing two hits in six shutout innings for the victory. Andrew Lein pitched a perfect seventh inning in relief.

Josh Still took the loss pitching seven innings, allowing six runs, one earned. He struck out three and walked one.

Fargo will play Hibbing Saturday at 3 p.m. Perham will open Saturday’s games with an 11 a.m. game against Thief River Falls.

BEMIDJI — Perham played Friday without the services of Nathan Currier who was knocked out of Thursday night's game in Bemidji after colliding with Josh Still in the outfield. Perham had traveled with only nine players and was forced to forfeit the second game with Currier held out for precautionary reasons. Perham held on to win 13-11 in the opener with Still and Tanner Carlson manning the outfield from the power alleys.

Perham led 2-0 after the first inning. Bemidji rallied for six in the bottom half, during which, Currier's collision occurred forcing Perham to play the remaining six innings a man down.

Dylan Kruzel got the victory pitching six innings. Still was 3-5 with two doubels. CJ Mulcahy and Joe Solberg each hit two-run home runs.

Perham had to overcome Currier's spot in the lineup which was an automatic out when his turn came to the plate.
